Ken Meech tells me that family tradition, passed down orally, has it that our Knappett line in England started whrn two french soldiers landed on the Suffolk coast in 1688. They were Hugenots fleeing from persecution in France and were reputed to have settled in the Sutton area of Suffolk. As William was born about 33 years after this event, he is most likely the grandson of the original french Knappett.
